Membership Benefits

When you join the Southern Maryland Audubon Society, you join a group of like-minded people interested in the natural world around us. You may elect to join the Southern Maryland chapter of National Audubon only, or you may elect to join the National Audubon Society and thereby automatically become a member of the Southern Maryland Chapter. (See sidebar)

Membership benefits include:

  • Chapter field trips, twenty or so each year in the Southern Maryland and Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Monthly meetings, September through June.
  • The Chapter monthly newsletter, "The Osprey".
  • National members will also receive six bi-monthly issues of the award winning Audubon magazine of the National Audubon Society.

Your membership does not obligate you to participate in any of our local functions, but we encourage you to come out as often as possible.

  • You will discover the wonderful birding spots in Southern Maryland when on our field trips.
  • Our monthly meetings always offer interesting information and socialization.
  • Your membership helps support regional and statewide conservation issues and research studies.
  • Your membership helps support our strong programs in environmental education and outreach.
  • Your membership helps provide you with information on local and statewide conservation issues.
  • Your membership helps provide you with discounts at participating area bird supply stores.

Local or National?

If you sign up for a National membership you will receive the Audubon magazine and will automatically become a part of the local chapter. If you sign up for a Chapter Only membership your membership dues go directly into a variety of volunteer-driven local chapter activities including; field trips, monthly meetings, Christmas Bird Counts, May Counts and the chapter newsletter. You would not receive the magazine provided by National Audubon.
