SUMMARY:The Mysteries and Marvels of Bird Migration
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Meeting via Zoom\nSpeaker: Chris Eberly\, Director of Programs\, Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake \nImagine flying 3\,000 miles with no rest\, no refueling\, and no water. Oh\, and by the way\, you weigh half an ounce and do this in 80 non-stop hours.  The Blackpoll Warbler does this (plus an additional 4\,500 miles) during its migration every fall. Swainson’s Hawks travel 7\,000 miles and switch from eating ground squirrels in the American West to grasshoppers in Argentina. \nChris Eberly\, formerly executive director of the Maryland Bird Conservation Partnership\, is one of the state’s leading authorities on bird migration. He  will explore amazing migrations\, from raptors to shorebirds to songbirds and demonstrate how technology is helping scientists unravel the complexities of bird migration. GPS\, light-level geolocators\, weather surveillance radar\, and nanotags are unlocking these long-held secrets. \nZoom in and join us online. The presentation is free and open to all. To receive the link to join\, you must sign up for our Osprey newsletter using the form at the bottom of this web page. We will email the link prior to the event. \nThis lecture can qualify for Master Naturalist continuing education.
