DESCRIPTION:Speakers:  Andy Brown\, Barn Owl Coordinator-MD Bird Conservation Partnership Farmland Raptor Program and Alex Pellegrini\, Research Technician\, MD Bird Conservation Partnership\, Farmland Raptor Program\n\n\n\nJoin us for the latest research and conservation efforts to help the Barn Owl—one of the most vulnerable species of birds in Maryland. The “ghost owl” has been disappearing in Maryland along with the old barns where they once nested and the farm fields where they hunted. \nOur speakers have been at the forefront of major conservation efforts to protect Barn Owls and their habitat. They will share the latest research on Barn Owls in the Mid-Atlantic region and what the public and conservationists can do to support this amazing bird in the future.\n\nThis program can qualify for Master Naturalist continuing education.\n\n\n\n\nThe Zoom link will be emailed to our Osprey email list prior to the talk. DESCRIPTION:Presentation and Bird Walk at Historic Sotterley\nLeader: Dean Newman \nLearn about identifying birds\, how your smart phone can make you an identification expert and how to properly use your binoculars.  Immediately following the presentation\, Dean Newman\, an avid wildlife photographer\, speaker and veteran bird guide\, will lead a walk around the Historic Sotterley grounds helping you put into practice what you learned.\n\nThe presentation starts promptly at 8:00 am\, please arrive 10-15 minutes prior.\nWe will be meeting in the barn. Please bring binoculars and a field guide but don’t worry if you don’t have either. Suggested to wear comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate attire. For all levels of birdwatchers. Then Birding 101 is the birding field trip for you!\nThe more you walk the walk\, the better you become! Join us at Piscataway Park and explore our living history as well as our natural world – the world of birds! We will point out helpful identification points such as: bird bill and facial markings\, plumage details\, field marks\, flight patterns\, sound\, behavior\, and habitat and seasonal expectation\, as well as what bird apps to help you on your journey in learning about birds.\n\nThis is a joint bird walk hosted by the Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park and the Southern Maryland Audubon Society.
